"I am considered by those who know me well, and by the clients I serve, as a “problem solver”. In my trade I have learned to listen carefully to gain understanding of the issues that concern the people and the organizations I work for. My goal is to bring my abilities in active listening and critical thinking to the school board and to evaluate all options to implement the best strategies in achieving the goals our parents and students desire."
- Greg Petrie
I have been married for 24 years and have three kids, with one still in our school district. I am a member of Grace Church, in Chaska.
I was born in Bloomington, MN and moved to the San Francisco Bay Area at 6 months old. My family moved back to Minnesota, settling in the Brainerd Lakes Area during my senior year of high school. I was a standout in football, where I was awarded All-State Honors.
While I was in Brainerd, I attended two years of Junior College before moving to back to San José, California and finishing my schooling in Business Administration.
For 25 years I have been a Financial Planner helping families and business plan for and achieve their financial goals. My interest in financial planning has led me to hold numerous non-profit organization leadership posts. These, typically were finance-related involved managing the income statement, balance sheets and accounting.
Why I Am Running
My ambition to run for school board is driven by my desire to give back to a school system that has been so important in the education of my special needs son. The experience I have had with the faculty throughout my son’s education has been one I am extremely grateful for. My sole desire is to be an advocate for the school staff and the parents of our students.
I also firmly believe that our school system is failing to provide our students with the basic educational skills needed to be successful in life and in society. Focus must be driven back to the basics of learning: reading, writing, and mathematics.
